Falstrom Company Updates
Welding Program
Welder and Weld Inspector qualification is serious
business, particularly when mission critical equipment for Navy ships is involved. Electronic systems onboard ships control
propulsion systems, weapon systems, radar systems, power distribution–
almost everything that that operates and protects the lives of sailors and
the mission of the vessel. Whether
surface ship or submarine, the survival of these systems often depends on
welded structures to keep them secure and operational under extreme and
hostile conditions.
As a supplier of electronic enclosures and welded
structures to major defense electronics contractors, Falstrom Company takes our responsibility for
maintaining welding process control and quality assurance very
seriously. We have implemented an
on-going program for training and qualification of our welders and our
inspectors that assures our customers they are getting compliant welds on
all of the equipment we manufacture.
Working with General Dynamics Electric Boat, Northrop Grumman, and
Welder Training & Testing Institute (WTTI), Falstrom
Company has recently upgraded our Weld Procedures, Welder
Workmanship Training, and Weld Inspection programs to comply with the
requirements of Tech-Pub/Mil-Std-248, Tech-Pub/Mil-Std-278, and Tech-Pub/Mil-Std-271.
Falstrom Company currently has qualified Tech-Pub/Mil-Std-248/278
procedures and qualified welders for HY-80 Steel, Carbon Steel, Stainless-to-Carbon
Steel, 5052-H32 Aluminum, and 5052-to-6061 Aluminum. In addition, we also have qualified
procedures for AWS D1.1, AWS D1.3, and AWS D17.1. Should new procedures be
required we have resources in place to prepare and qualify both the
procedures and personnel.
To maintain the integrity of our welding program, Falstrom Company performs regular and unannounced
audits and reviews utilizing in-house personnel and independent outside
Level III resources of Welder Training & Testing Institute.
When the system you are designing depends on welding,
you can depend on Falstrom Company…
